Dear Beth, Hospital privileges as a HCP would be a benefit to the mom.
Probably frustrating to you! You will bump up against policy and
procedures that you can have no influence over. The fee is stiff, I was
not aware that was a common practice. Do all HCPs have to pay this fee in
order to get privileges at this hospital (resp.techs, MDs, NPs, CNMs and
so on-ask around)? If they have invented the fee to block you that would
be discrimination. Also, since you have some sort of on-going problem with
this hospital, is it worth it? I haven't bothered to try and get
privileges at my local hospital to see moms (where I also started the
program). I just tell moms when called that I can't see them there, give
what advice I can over the phone and tell them it is important to escape
ASAP. Then we will pretend it is day one and start over. It is very
problematic to go "home" again and probably not worth the hassle or $.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
