Adding to the discussion about consequences of tongue tie, I don't think
anyone has brought up orthodontia. Brian Palmer addresses teeth
irregularities somewhat in his presentations, but it seems to me that we
rarely discuss it. Maybe that's because having teeth and jaw corrections
are a 'normal' part of our life nowadays.

Anyway, I think it is important to discuss this with parents, even if
breastfeeding is going well. My now 11 year old son did not 'need' be
clipped as an infant because feeding was going very well, but he now has
teeth presentations that I believe are a direct cause of his tongue tie.
But, his dentist and orthodontists don't agree with me. They want to put
braces on him; I want them to preform a frenectomy. We are at a stalemate.
I will let my son decide for himself when he is older. I do wish this
information was more mainstream.

The last client that I worked with whose babe needed a frenotomy would not
be convinced about it's validity until she was informed that her son would
not be able to french kiss later in life! How funny is that?

Moving on, does anyone have any information about possible links to tongue
tie and other seemingly unrelated health issues? For example, my tongue
tied son also has epilepsy. A gentleman I met not too long ago who was also
tongue tied also had epilepsy. Far fetched? Maybe... but... I wonder if
there have ever been any studies done that might show that individuals with
tongue tie are more likely to also have other health conditions.

Also... can anyone here provide an online link or a document that gives a
check list for submucosal tongue ties? Both the symptoms and the
treatments? I feel woefully inadequate in this area - I often *suspect* a
submucosal tongue tie, but I don't really know how to diag... er... notice
it, and I have no idea what to suggest to the parents. I understand the
frenotomy and frenectomy options for labial and lingual tongue ties, but not
others.

Thanks!
