I want to add to what Naomi said about companies giving or selling their
mailing lists.
Expectant parents beware, whenever and where ever you put your name and
address down for either drawings, magazines or, shops mailing lists; these
lists than can get into other companies hands and it is legal.
I have worked in OB and Peds practices and they did not give out their
clients names to anyone but they did allow baby magazine companies to leave
their "sign up" sheets at the desk and here is where the formula companies
can get the expectant parents info. I do believe it is unethical for a
clinician's office to give out their clients names and could get into trouble
for doing this.
In the marketing world there is nothing for FREE so if we get sucked into
that lure we are now on a list.
For woman who swear they never sign up for anything, are you sure that
friends or relatives don't put your name in some where thinking they are
giving you something special? Who knows.
