I am not sure what information you are looking for. I personally have
thryroid cancer and have also had a client who was diagnosed while pregnant.
She had her thyroidectomy shortly after delivery, nursed for a year, and then
had her radioactive iodide (I 131) treatment. She rented a pump to store up
breastmilk for when she had to wean, but then ended up nursing longer. It was
not a problem for her to delay the I 131 treatment. There are several types
of thyroid cancer. Treatment varies according to the diagnosis and the stage
of the cancer. From what I understand, the radioactive Iodide treatment
necessitates weaning, because it would concentrate in a lactating breast. It
also is present in the milk for at least several days. See Tom Hale's book
for more info on Radioactive Iodide treatment.
