Hello, I am Suzanne Haydu, Maternal and Child Health Branch/ California
Department of Health Services Nutrition Consultant.  I have the unique
opportunity of compiling  breastfeeding education resource packets for our
MediCal (Medicaid) Managed Care contractors.  We are looking at low cost
pamphlets, booklets, posters, etc. that we could recommend for use.  Our
biggest concern is the lack of material developed by and specifically for
African American and Southeast Asian women as these populations appear to
have the lowest breastfeeding rates in California....often materials have
their pictures but do not address breastfeeding from their cultural
perspective...actually we find that the Southeast Asian material is usually a
direct translation of other material that often gets lost in the translation.
Two student interns are working on this project this summer: Penni Powell,
R.D. and Barrone Conkrite, B.S. They really need the input of breastfeeding
