Patricia,
I agree. Sometimes I will tell a mother what she can do to make
breastfeeding work...only to have her turn around and go to her physician
for a "cure" for the baby's waking frequently, nursing often...

Parents must choose what they want and then decide who to get advice from
in the matter.

I have to credit the AAP for their endorsement of breastfeeding and their
continued promotion of it. Individual pediatricians are seeing serious
increases in breastfeeding related issues because of it. How much time can
one expect a pediatrician to spend trying to help a mother breastfeed? Most
of the time their appointments are only a few minutes in length.

As long as parents are looking for fast cures....they will get them.
