I've been closely following Lactnet discussions about what is and
what isn't allowed in US Baby-Friendly hospitals. And, on a slightly
tangential coincidence today I needed to look up whether
Baby-Friendly USA was compliant with the Code. I came to a very
helpful and clear document called Baby-Friendly USA: Guidelines and
Evaluation Criteria for Facilities Seeking Baby-Friendly Designation.
Sandwich, MA: Baby-Friendly USA, 2010. (Revised 28 Nov
2011) available at
<http://assets.bfusa.s3.amazonaws.com/cms/files/289/files/original/2010_Guidelines_Criteria_Rev_11_28_11.pdf>http://assets.bfusa.s3.amazonaws.com/cms/files/289/files/original/2010_Guidelines_Criteria_Rev_11_28_11.pdf

Firstly, the provisions of the Code are coming through loud and
clear. But, while I was looking (as one does ....!) at the section on
medical justifications for _not_ breastfeeding, I was rather
disheartened to see that maternal HIV infection is mentioned flagged
up as one of them. But the language used is rather
olde-worlde.... Sure enough, the reference given is a WHO
recommendation which is a whole seven years out of date. And the
nice shiny new AAP revised position paper on HIV and breastfeeding is
conspicuous by its absence. I've drafted what I hope is a friendly
and polite rationale for an update. But instead of just sending it
to info at US Baby Friendly where it risks being buried and
forgotten, I'm wondering whether I could expand the list of
addressees to include any baby-friendly colleagues who might be
involved in a US BF Coalition or something which provides input into
this important initiative? If so, please could you let me know who
they might be, and how to contact them?

Many thanks if you can help.
