Went to a lecture recently where the presenter noted that the Latin for she-
wolf was also the colloquial for prostitutes in past times. It is more
likely that a woman in this ancient trade mothered or wet-nursed Romulus
and Remus vs. an ancient canine did so... Or perhaps their mother or wet
nurse stated to a sympathetic friend something that is expressed by so many
mothers breastfeeding young twins (or triplets) -- "I sometimes feel like a
wolf (dog, cow, fill-in-the-blank) feeding a litter!" and the story got
misinterpreted after generations of oral storytelling??
