Hello everyone - just wanted you to know that the Montel Williams show on
extended breastfeeding is scheduled to air on September 26th.
Unfortunately, I will be on a plane that day flying to Rochester NY to
speak at a conference, but I will record it and see it when I return on
October 5th.

Some points: I thought Montel was very rough on the guests, and most
especially Nancy Mohrbacher's two teen boys that were brave enough to
appear on the show. Montel seemed to be very negative about the issue of
extended breastfeeding, and in my opinion tried to humiliate her younger
child on national TV. Note that ahead of time they wanted TEEN BOYS to
appear on the show, and were definite that they did not want girls. As you
watch the show, why do you think that was?

At the end of the show Montel stated to us that he expected to be flooded
with negative e-mails about breastfeeding - along the lines that there is
no proof that breastfeeding is good, bashing him for even doing the show,
etc. Lets give him the exact opposite. Feel free to post this to any other
groups. Encourage people to watch the show and send their comments.

BUT - don't send him angry e-mails, or they will hurt us and our cause.
Angry e-mails make us look like we are out on the fringes. Instead, make
them positive and informative. Even when you are letting him know you don't
like something. For instance, if one was upset over the way he treated
Nancy's son and wanted to tell him so, you could nicely point out the fact
that you were disappointed with how that was handled, or how you really
felt for the child, or how it made him look bad, or even how impressed you
were that her son stood up for himself so well. Feel free to give him real
feedback, just remember that bashing and anger don't result in people
listening.

Well, I hope that my memory does not serve me well, and that the show went
off better than I think it did. I was glad that I was there, because I
doubt that many of the misconceptions about breastfeeding would never have
been addresses at all. Of course, maybe they cut out all the good things I
think I remember me saying!
