Jennifer,
My almost 3 year old daughter, Hagan has been receiving donor
breastmilk in her G-tube since she was 8 months old. Producing enough of my own was
nearly impossible on me emotionally at that time (Domperidone, frequent pumping,
herbs couldn't catch me up...I was so stressed). donor milk saved my sanity
and my daughter has been rarely ill despite her compromised genetic make up. I
highly recommend this mother look into it.
Now the tricky part. I called my insurance to see if they would cover
it. Our pediatrician wrote a Rx so it was medically deemed necessary.
insurance said no way! They told me they would totally cover for a special formula
that was more expensive but not breastmilk. I was fuming. I have been fortunate
enough to have a loving family who pays the huge milk bills (the banks make no
profit but still expensive ). I have thought about fighting the insurance over
this ridiculous practice but, with 4 little kids I am so busy.
Let me know how you and this mother proceed. I do hope she can get
some breastmilk to this sweet baby. Maybe this will motivate me to get after
insurance on this on. Heather Dana
