Well, I'm stumped. Has anyone on lactnet ever heard of this?

Healthy patient, now 2 months postpartum. She had an epidural assisted vag
delivery and was doing fine until 1 month postpartum. At that time she
developed severe itching over the low back, buttocks and entire thighs
bilaterally whenever she nursed and only when she nursed. It has not changed
in nature, severity or duration since its onset.

The itch subsides once she has finished nursing. This is not related to
the letdown as she will letdown in the shower without symptoms. She does
not itch when she pumps. The itch is present even if she nurses lying down
and persists in different chairs. She also has some mild flushing and
sweating with nursing.

She is otherwise well. There are no neurologic signs. She had a probable
bulging lumbar disc two years ago but has been well since.

When I examined her I noted some painless vasospasm of one nipple but the
exam is otherwise normal.
With anticipation from the Great North,

Shirley
