Dear all:

It dawned on me last night when some survey person managed to get past the "Do Not Call" list that
we had signed up for that has removed much of the annoying phone advertisements that we get, that
many of my clients would be very happy with a "Do not give formula bag" gag order. I personally had
to call up one of the formula companies for the powdered formula they sent my husband, a
psychologist for who knows what reason. The formula representative tried to tell me that maybe it
was one of my disgruntled clients that had done it (as if!). I'm thinking of proposing this to our New
York State Senator to include in her list of "log rolling" tactics. She is quite interested in going to the
mat and adding as much as possible, so that if the requests get rejected, the other alternatives will
seem more reasonable.

Then, if we are really talking about choice - it should be a fully informed choice. Every single
formula bag should have a statement, signed by the parents, that includes a simple list that has the
increased risk of death, diarrhea, respiratory diseases, etc that will release the hospital of liability
should the infant develop any of these conditions.

Good luck to Marsha who has been doing a marvelous job and setting an example of what we can
pursue in New York.

Best regards, Susan Burger
