Yes, I have heard of it. My daughter  (at the time only 13 years old and
NOT lactating) developed a high fever and a hard swollen, red hot
breast.Ii took her to her pediatrician and he diagnosed mastitis. I
couldn't believe it, but he said he sometimes sees it in active girls
who play contact sports. It was right in the middle of soccer season and
she had taken some hard bumps being one of the younger girls on the
team. The affected breast was at least twice the size of the
non-affected breast. Whitin 48 hours of starting the antibiotics the
breast was almost back to normal size although it continued to be pink
for several more days. She is 29 years old and has never had it again,
she has also not lactated yet.

Has anyone ever heard of or seen a woman that has been diagnosed with
Mastitis when she is not breastfeeding? It has been 8 yrs since this
woman has lactated. A physician has told her she has mastitis, I just
wanted to know if that is possible.
