If you check the section on teething in "What to expect the first year" It
recommends not attending to your baby if she cries at night while teething -
"she will only get used to your presence"

That book was written by a female as well...

Not always, Judy.  Sometimes some of the worst advice comes from females.
Check out the Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg, or The Contented Little Baby
Book by Gina Ford.
