I am hoping you all can help me. I've been researching around and can't
really find any definitive answers as of yet. My Brandon, who has CHARGE syndrome
, has some sensory issues, one of which is a pretty strong oral aversion.
We're working with an Occupational Therapist, and he he's been nursing well
since he was 3 weeks old. But, obviously, we've been hearing about "solids" for
quite some time. Brandon is exclusively breastfed. Our pediatrician is great,
so is our OT, but I know eventually getting food into him is a must. I'm an
LLL Leader, so I feel like up until the last few months I've had good solid
information at my disposal. But once you get past 9 or 10 months, things seem
to dwindle off! Here's what I need to know:

Is there a point where my milk will not have enough calories for him? How
can I get him more calories? His weight gain has been good, but obviously
w/syndrome AND age is not fast anymore. He's 15months and 18ish pounds (born at
5). He also does not crawl or walk yet, so to me he's kind of 6 months old!

Is he in a situation where any vitamin/mineral supplement is necessary? I
wouldn't be asking this if he were younger, obviously. But I don't see "a
variety of foods" entering his diet anytime soon.

Is there anything I should be doing/taking? Will me taking prenatal vitamins
do anything for him?

I'm also (probably irrationally) terrified of not making enough milk for
him. Again, I wouldn't ask this if he were younger, or if my milk, from my
breast, wasn't his ONLY food. But is supply and demand indefinite? Should I be
employing strategies to make sure I have plenty of milk beyond nursing on
demand? Would all the "increasing milk supply" techniques even work? Is having more
milk something I should think about?

I was pretty comfortable with all of this when he was just 12 months. But as
we get closer to 18, and the information is getting harder to find, I worry.
I'm so dedicated to breastfeeding that I'm afraid I may be missing something.

Thanks so much,
Shannon Thomas
