With all due respect, I do not like the term "breastmilk substitute" at all.

Think about a substitute teacher, she/he has the same qualifications as a
regular full-time teacher but stands in place as an equal to those students
when the regular/full time teacher is absent. "Breastmilk substitute" gives
the same image. It is not an equal replacement, it is inferior, period.

The stuff is artificial. It is not real.

<< ABM - I have always assumed this meant "Artificial Breastmilk" or
"Artificial
Baby Milk." I think a better, but still imperfect, reference to
formula would be the term I hear used by lots of Lactation professionals -
"Breastmilk Substitute" or BMS. The words Formula and Artificial Breastmilk
sound like good things. I think Breastmilk Substitute gives moms a better
feel for what it is, even though there really is no substitute. >>
