Here's a puzzle with which I would appreciate some help to solve.
Here are the pieces: A round pink-cheeked 4 mo. old girl and her
mommy came for a consultation yesterday. At the time of birth the
baby's 2 year old sister came down with a gastro-intestinal infection
which lasted 5 weeks, during which she hung on to her mother, partly
due to jealousy as well. As she became beztter, the baby began to
develop symptoms which are now difficult for the mother to cope with:
The baby sucks willingly and well to get MER going, but as the milk
lets down she begins to pull away (releasing nipple),kicks, and
returns to nipple. A feed takes 1 1/2 hours and she is not getting
all the milk the breast has available. When the mother sits her up
after baby releases the nipple, the baby sits contentedly with no signs of
discomfort. The baby is a contented child. I recommended bfing
standing up and/or in a darkened room.

I would have less concern about this except that the baby's stomach
gets hard during nursing and her stools smell like sulfur. This aroma
and the pulling away began 6-8 weeks ago. At the baby's health
check-up last week the doctor did not bother to even feel the child's
stomach. I referred the mother to another pediatrician to check for
possible organic causes. The mother herself is being treated
homeopathically for cholestase and her caretaker says she has
hemoglobin in her milk. (never heard of this) Various homeopathic
treatments and Sab simplex have been tried out, but none have been
successful. The mother does admit to other stresses - first child
awakes 2-3 times a nite and they are building a house.

What could cause sulfur smelling stools? Appearance is normal.
Any help would be appreciated, but please mail me privately as I am
currently on no-mail. Many thanks:-)
