Janet, do you really think it's your enthusiasm that scares people?  Maybe
you are giving too much information at one time and they become overwhelmed.
 I don't think we can be too enthusiastic about breastfeeding.  But we can
give people either too much information at once or information they aren't
ready for.  For example, I rarely share with patients that I breastfed my
children long after they started walking and talking.  That is too shocking
to most people and they then decide you're a radical or extremist and turn
off to the rest of what you say.  But if someone asks about nursing toddlers
and I sense that they are open to the idea but maybe being pressured by
others to wean,  I'll say something like "Several of us in this office nursed
our children past two.  It's an individual decision."  Then I see how they
respond and go from there.  As far as tandem nursing a 20 month old that has
been bottle fed so far....if that works let us know about it!  I've never
heard of a baby starting to breastfeed once they were past a few months old.
