Hi all-After our discussion recently of allergic colitis, I was thinking of
this interesting article regarding the GI tract, etc. The article is in the
Journal of Pediatrics, 1995; 126: 34-9 ( I think that's the Jan. or Feb.
issue). It is an Italian study, author: Iacono, on chronic constipation as a
symptom of cow milk allergy. Very interesting. I'm sure all of you LCs have
dealth with moms who supplement with formula, or change to bottle feeding,
only to have difficult constipation problems with the infant. We blame a lot
of that on iron in the formulas, but this presents a convincing argument,
with correlating clinical data, that it is a lactalbumin allergy that is the
cause. Anyone else read this?
