I suggest reading Marsha Walker's Do Labor Medications Affect
Breastfeeding?  This can be found in the JHL  1997; 13:131-137.  I always
ask moms if they have had labor medications.  More often then not these
are the ones who are having problems with breastfeeding, especially with
sleepy babies.  I will tell moms that labor medications can affect the
babies, interfering with establishing the nursing relationship.  They are
always shock to hear this and respond with, "I didn't know that."
