Hi all -

Let me begin by saying that CDC is NOT the lead agency on the Ad
Campaign and we have only served in an advisory capacity on it from the
very beginning, but I feel it is necessary to address/quell this
unfounded rumor about the Ad Campaign being stopped or thwarted or
petitions from guilty mothers. Barbara Heiser never said any of this,
and she is as baffled as many of the rest of us as to how this got
started (though the skeptics among us have ideas).

This is from Suzanne Haynes, at the Office on Women's Health, who has
initiated the Campaign and is in charge of it:

"Things are going well and the campaign is as strong as ever and is
backed by undisputable science. After all the pressure in November, we
are still launching the campaign in late Spring. "That is a major step
forward for womankind." I don't know what this is all about or where she
got her information. I never saw any petitions here and we got copies of
all the correspondence."

Please understand that contrary to what some would have you believe,
those of us in the gov't who work on bf day in and day out are working
on behalf of breastfeeding mamas and babies, and in many cases have
caught more than our share of flak from outside the bf world because of
it. Please offer your colleagues working on the same side of the issue
a small benefit of the doubt that there are a lot of things going on at
the same time and not all of it is sinister (in fact a lot of it is
quite uneventful).

Thanks,
