Dear Pamela,
I wrote to a few people in the OB field on the Mom I worked with recently who
had a placenta accreta. To choose not to have a hysterectomy is so she will
be able to have future pregnancies. But what caused the accreta in the first
place? And any woman who has a scare in her uterus is at risk of an accreta
in a future pregnancy.

Now your case, did your Mom get treated with Methotrexate (Folex or
Rheumatrex)?
I do not understand how inducing a menstrual period would clear her uterus.
But why ask this Mom to wean? I say this with 3 thoughts: if she weaned and
had a period but this did not clear her uterus, cutting back on some
breastfeedings could induce the menstrual cycle back, and she could wean and
possibly stay amenorrheic.
I would encourage this Mom or you to ask more questions before she takes such
a drastic move.
Good luck and keep us posted.
