I have been thinking about this a lot.
At what point do we give up.
And stop thinking about these cases.
~~~ Henya, All I know is that I feel your pain...There are families who
continue to haunt my thoughts for years, probably always will. Some we can let
 go of easier than others when we know we've offered the best and most
caring  information and support and guidance as we can, or as the family will
allow us  to. Sometimes the only thing that helps is miraculously seeing a mom
and smiling  baby that I have been able to help along the way, just when
feeling particularly  low. This has happened many times over the years, but
less so recently  since I've seen many more moms in other neighborhoods.
Still, I got to see today  a mom I worked with with her first and now her second
child, this one now 8  months, nursing well, mom happy, and both looking
great, just  strolling down the street. It's a priceless gift. Maybe you can
let yourself  remember all the moms that allowed you to help them. We can't
help families who,  whatever they say they want or will do, just cannot follow
through.  Sometimes it's not just ok, it's critical to let go, for a
moment, a  day, a week, or for good, depending on how things go over time.
Peace, J
