A mother is considering weaning because her doctor told her that prolactin
lowers the body's natural immunity. She has been really ill with colds, flu,
and strep throats since her baby was born.
<<snip>>> <<My doctor said that the prolactin released by breastfeeding also
lower your immunity. She said this is done, in her opinion, so the
breastfeeding mother WILL get sick and pass antibodies on to the baby.
<<snip>>>

Isn't this the EXACT opposite of what we know? I've learned that moms who
breastfeed have higher circulating antibodies so they get sick less often. Am
I right on this or is there some other research that makes the HCP correct?
I'd like to answer her before she takes the HCP advice and finds out she is
still sick.
TIA
Marie Davis, RN, IBCLC
