Article by Jennifer Kerr of the AP on AOL News:
The study on nevirapine (viramune) was bungled and put hundreds of mothers
and babies in Uganda at risk, according to Dr. Jonathan Fishbein of the NIH.
Nevirapine is used in preventing mother to child transmission (MTCT) of
hiv/aids. Fishbein is being fired by the NIH and he believes he is being fired in
retaliation for speaking out.

A young woman in the USA, who was diagnosed with hiv but not sick, died
recently from drug toxicity-liver failure directly attributed to her therapy
(nevirapine was part of the drugs she took). She was given a c-section before
death and her baby survived. The mother was a part of an NIH research study. I
believe that the family is seeking legal redress.

For those of us that work in states or countries in which hiv/aids and MTCT
transmission is of concern, I thought this information worth sharing.
