Had to take a break from vegetating in front of the TV to tell about the
most popular talk show in Norway this p.m.
One of the guests was singer Anja Garbarek, daughter of Jan Garbarek the
(Norwegian!) sax player. Anja lives in London so she was asked whether she
had been disinfected before entering the country.
'No, even though I am sort of cowlike these days....'
'Oh?'
'Yes, I've become a mother, so...'
'Oh, so you're breastfeeding?' (Smiles all round.)
'Yes, I'm breastfeeding.'
Then, a few minutes later, she and the other guests were discussing
traveling with children. Anja had to travel to France when her daughter was
newborn. 'My mother came with us, and I would go down to the hotel lobby,
do an interview, then run up to our room, flip out a boob and feed Emilie
while I ate my own lunch, then run back out, do something else...'
'So you're sitting here engorged at this very moment?' (The male host
actually used the word we use for milk engorgement.)
'(laughter)Well, yes... actually I was hoping as I arrived that the lighting
here wouldn't be such that you could see my breast pads through my blouse!'
(Laughter all round.)
Then we learned that Emilie, 4 months, was at her grandparents' home while
mother was in the studio. The whole drift was that a baby belongs with
mother and that BF is a pleasant, normal part of having a baby. It is
custom here not to expose celebrity babies or children on mass media or I'm
sure Emilie would have come along.

The leading tabloid here apparently had a huge spread on the BMJ article
last Saturday. No one has commented and no other mass media have picked it
up. Having a terminally provincial press has its up side too.
