Asking on behalf of my daughter, who is 6 months pregnant with baby #2. Her older child is 28 months, was exclusively breast fed for 6 months, added solids, etc, and is now down to nursing just twice a day - early morning and bedtime.

My daughter complains of a "deep pain" during those nursing times in her left breast.

No visible difference in breasts, not tender to touch, and hurts only when toddler nurses. My daughter says that she stopped producing milk awhile ago. She has tried keeping the toddler off that breast for a week at a time, with no build up of milk, just to avoid the pain, but when she tries offering that breast the pain is still there. No nipple pain at all, no clear or bloody discharge from the breast.

I am thinking it is due to the process of involution, but I don't know why that would cause pain. The only thing I could think of was to ask her OB for an ultrasound of that breast.

Other ideas as to the etiology of that pain?
