Hi.

What effect does a high concentration vitamin/mineral body wrap have on the
breastmilk and breastfeeding baby?

A mother of a nursing 2 month old contacted me wondering if having a " body
wrap " would have an adverse effect on her baby. Either her pediatrician
or the shop that offers the body wrap said it probably would affect the
milk's taste. The mother is eager to do this to lose inches on her waist
and hears that this new treatment is really effective. The body wrap
consists of ace bandages, soaked in high concentrations of all the vitamins
and many minerals, wrapped around all or most of the person's body.

This mom is taking her prenatal vitamins. I told her that with this wrap,
it probably would be a good idea not to wrap the breast/nipple area in case
the baby would ingest what vitamins and minerals were on the nipple as a
result. And I wondered if some amount of these high concentrations of
vitamins and minerals would be absorbed into the mother's body through the
skin, thus affecting the vitamin/mineral levels in the breast milk. I
wondered if baby would be getting too much of some vitamins/minerals that at
high concentrations would be harmful. I gave her suggestions on how to lose
weight while breastfeeding through diet and exercise.

If you have any ideas or information about the effect a vitamin/mineral body
wrap would have on breastmilk and the nursing baby, please let me know.

Thank you.
