Terri asks about a mother with low fat milk.

Fat in breastmilk is dynamic - it is driven by the volume of milk in the
breasts at any one time.

Eyeballing expressed breastmilk gives no real indication of the amount of
fat produced overall - just a very rough indication of the amount of fat in
that particular *sample*.

In any case, babies can thrive perfectly well on high-volume, low-fat milk
production - maybe this baby is doing perfectly well? :)

Increasing the fat in the mother's diet will have no effect on the amount of
fat in the breastmilk (though type of fat can reflect diet).

The pattern of bf this mother describes - shortish, frequent feeds - is
normal. Maybe the mother wil be helped best with suggestions on how to make
life easier for herself, while her baby is this normal, age-appropriate
stage :)
