GI people out there Help !!!! Premie baby on 7/8 breastmilk 1/8 Prem 24 cal
INH for Tb started to have bright red bloody streaks after 2 weeks of mixed
feeds as above in occaisional stools baby's growth 7-8 ounces per week
"normal bf" bm diapers progressed to more bloody streaks (most other
stools, 8-10 per day) were hemoccult NEG. Hgl/ Hct is normal without
supplemental iron.
3 days ago baby put on SOY based ABM per Health dept doc/wic NOW STOOLS
GREEN and MORE BLOODY & MUCOUSY etc. today baby taken OFF BREAST MILK, OFF
INH, Onto ALIMENTUM for next 5 days DOC told her to freeze br milk for 5
day.

Doctor says to mother (struggling to have confidence in her milk supply)
"that it might be her breastmilk causing the bleeding"......i get so mad i
can't even think.... how can a baby grow so well otherwise and BE
INTOLERANT OF MOM's milk.

I asked her if she drank dairy ate cheese she said
yes "I have to, the WIC program told me I have to drink milk to make milk
for my baby " I told her if the baby is having problems it my be the dairy
in her diet and that She could make great milk without drinking milk she
said she would try to not drink milk while she pumped for the 5 days she
asked if it was ok to eat eggs i said try eliminating one thing at a time
rather than every thing ...at once.    WAS I wrong to advise this ?????

Could it be INH ??????  i've asked this several times on LACTNET, no reply  !

Since my first baby had major Bloody stools during her first year on Br
milk but grew like a weed (I drank literally gallons of dairy during
pregnancy and lactation) we found her to be lactose intolerant when I began
to introduce  cows milk (like a good RN mommy) she blows up like a balloon
when she eats ice cream without Lactaid.....any similarity ? it's scary
when a premie has bleeding....

BABY loves to nurse we (WIC BF counselor) made great strides to get him to
breast and get this mom half way confident that this set back may just be
the straw to break this camel mommies back......ANY sugestions ?

I know you can't diagnose but two Peds docs say this baby is doing GREAT SO
WHY DO WE HAVE TO STOP BREASTFEEDING ???????? What the HECK is Breastmilk
Colitis ?
