Tthe first premie I worked with many (too many to figure, kid is grown and
married :-) years ago came home from hospital at one month old & 4 lbs (mom
signed her out AMA after a nurse told her "don't worry honey we don't hold
her or spoil her"). Mom took baby and went to bed. The first day the baby
dropped a couple of ounces and I held my breath. The next day she stayed
the same and the 3rd day she began to gain! Went on to nurse for a couple of
years :-) Interestingly this mom was given Parlodel at baby's birth and
didn't even think about breastfeeding until her milk came in about 2 weeks
later! She hand pumped tiny dabs of milk(no electric pumps back then :-).
The few days before the baby came home she borrowed a newborn for nursing
stim. It's amazing that she suceeded - back when we didn't know much :-)
Of course maybe that helped <VBG> Pat in SNJ
