Katherine asks for help in composing text for the BF content in a museum
display about the perinatal period, and wonders what to do about 'Is bottle
feeding as good as breastfeeding?'
How about 'Is bottle feeding THAT different from breastfeeding?'
or 'Is bottle feeding the same as breastfeeding?'
Both of these avoid the 'good/bad' dichotomy but allow for an explanation of
the differences - besides the quality of the food the baby gets, you can
mention pacing of feeds and appetite regulation, the fine tuning of a feed
to suit baby's needs, the ease of preparation of the feed, and the neat
solution to where to put the empties. All of these things must be actively
dealt with if you bottle feed, and if you breastfeed they just happen on
their own, for the most part. How about 'breastfeeding is the lazy mother's
godsend' or something like that? Maybe not quite so pointed or exaggerated,
but something that emphasizes what a lot of dull drudgery is involved in
bottle feeding, and how convenient breastfeeding is - you can put your feet
up in good conscience and listen to the radio or have a cup of tea with a
friend while doing it, or just not bother getting up in the night because
the food is right at hand...
It would be wise to mention what is IN the bottle, too - just to make sure
they know that bottle feeding expressed breastmilk is in another league
entirely, from formula feeding.

Then, at the end, you could get in some good, amusing points about how
*even* a baby can tell the difference between a bottle and a breast.
