Hello, Lactfriends. I put out a request for info a few days ago and have
heard nothing but would like to get back to the CNM friend who brought the
situation to me.

The mom in question was put on combined OC's by her doctor three weeks
ago. Since then, the baby has begun having malodorous brownish stools, is
gassy, and seems to be in GI distress much of the time. Baby was 2-1/2
months old when mom switched to combined OC's (she was originally
prescribed Micronor -- the doc switched her because he thought that
Micronor just isn't effective enough...grrr). I need feed back. Could the
combined OC's be the cause of the gi distress in the baby? Could it cause
enough changes to produce the malodorous stools? This baby is exclusively
breastfed. I had suggested that mom get off the combined OC's and that
the possibility of infection be investigated in the baby. I have never
encountered this particular scenario before. Has anyone out there
experienced something similar, or have ideas about the possible causes of
the malodorous stools, gi distress?

TIA,
