Phyllis, I understand that one with this condition must continue to take
iron supplements. I recommend to my clients that they take food-based iron
supplements, found at health food stores. All prescription iron
supplements are ferrous sulfate, which is poorly assimilated and, hence,
causes constipation and slow resolution of the anemia. (And often painful
gas in their infants.)

I had two clients this summer who had been anemic throughout pregnancy even
with taking large amounts of ferrous sulfate. They were still having
difficulty in raising their hemoglobin levels. They got a food-based
supplement, which is easily assimilated, and were up to normal quickly, and
were able to stop the supplements.

I also have my 82 year old mother taking a good food-based iron supplement,
with very good results.

Just a suggestion for you and your daughter. If you want a recommendation
of the reliable brand that I recommend, e-mail me.
