Hi Delores,

I'm doing staff training at our hospital right now. And this is what I've found out so far, I hope it helps you -

I felt that our staff would learn more by doing in-house training rather than online training. So I'm using the Birth & Beyond Project, it was originally developed by California Department of Public Health, but then updated by the Vermont Department of Health. It's a wonderful training program. It wasn't originally for BFHI, but they added another module of additional content required by BFHI. All you need to do is email them and ask if you can use it. They are very nice. Here is a link to their website. It's about 15 hours, depending on how in depth you go. But, of course, 15 hours of classroom time is just a minimum expectation for BFHI, it really needs to be to the point of competency, which may mean more training time depending on the person you are teaching. Also, another tip, as you go through training be sure to look at the original WHO BFHI maternity staff training materials, because ultimately we are responsible to make sure that all of the
content is covered with whatever training program we use.

We are solely responsible for making sure that our staff is educated with all the information in the WHO maternity staff training guidelines. You can use their official documents too, of course, because then you will be sure that it includes all this information. It's just that it's in a 300 page document form, so people like the B&B programs because they are more learner friendly. Here's the link to the WHO document, section 3 is staff training.

Good luck!

Sincerely,
