Gail,
Number one son called breastfeeding "nummies", if memory serves it was
maternally inspired. Number two son had breastfeeding referred to as
"nummies", but decided to be different. One morning at some pre-dawn hour
this tiny 7 or 8 month old child brought me from my sleepy fog to fully awake
as he asked for "otha side" (other side) and it was eventually shortened to
just "side". Number three (daughter) followed suit with her tandem nursing
older brother and also referred to breastfeeding as "side" until she started
to find as many different words as she could to call it. Happy memories.
