One of the most important lessons I learned early on was from a mother who
had successfully and happily bottle fed 8 babies. She thought it might be a
nice idea to breastfeed baby number 9.

I first saw this baby at 7 days. She was jaundiced and taking almost
nothing on test weight (mother had hired a scale). She was mostly bottle
fed. To be brief, this mother ended up breastfeeding baby for about 3 years
and baby number 10 as well. She also refused to wean when her doctor told
her she had to go on hormone replacement therapy (because of her age and
amenorrhoea) and various other hiccoughs. She became a role model for her
older children and the other women in her religious community. And I had
judged that she would *definitely* not breastfeed beyond another couple of
days...... I provided support and info and left her with a WAB. What a
lovely surprise and a valuable lesson learned.
