I've been hypothesizing the same thing in some of the low milk supply cases
I've dealt with. Babies get very creative in their attempts to extract milk,
and some of the results can be painful. I know that I do see moms with
stress pain while still in the colostrum phase, and once the milk starts to
flow, the pressure lets up and mom heals.

They also just don't tend to suck quite as well when they are
undernourished, which may or may not contribute to low tone.
