I'm not qualified to comment on the medical treatment, but as a writer (but 
NOT a lawyer!) I'll weigh in on the copyright issue. Advice that I've been 
given if copyrighted materials are used without permission: send a polite 
letter, cc bosses, and include an invoice. :-)

You don't need to worry about that though. Since you know the women who did 
the work, tell them that you're concerned about its possibly being 
reproduced without permission and leave it at that. Once the writers are 
informed, it's up to them to decide how to proceed.
