My understanding is this theory was initiated (or at least substantiated)
by the work done in the 80s by Dr Chandra. Look for his early work. If you
do an archives search you may be able to get the references I no longer
have them on my computer. I did hear him speak many years ago and it was
very interesting. Basically suggested that a pregnant woman with a
heightened immune system was more likely to give birth to an infant with a
heightened immune system. If the woman was able to keep her allergies under
control it lessened the responsiveness of the infant making it less likely
to develop an allergy. Of course what is transferred is the tendency NOT
the actual allergy, ie just because you have a milk allergy doesn't mean
your child will..it could just as easily be soy.
