I have read with interest the thoughtful responses by several Lactnetters to
the strand on definitions of "prescribing".  My own small comment is that we
need to be aware of differences in different jurisdictions.  Lactnetters
come from many countries and various states or provinces within those
countries.

The same applies to the terms "diagnosing" and "treating".  In some
jurisdictions, "diagnosing" is restricted to medical doctors, while in
others "diagnosing" is a specific competency in training standards for other
professions, even at diploma level.

Even the word "physician" is contentious.  While it is a generic term in the
US, elsewhere, such as in Australia, it is a restricted term for a
specialization (which I think equates to "internist").
