Thanks Dawn - Yes, I brought it up for that purpose - that it's worthy of a
discussion/think-through.

Re: The Convention on the Rights of the Child: I have a problem with the
word “nutritious” (see Article 24 below) because since 1989 research has
proven that breastmilk is the optimal ‘nutrition’ for the first six months.

‘Article 24 (Health and health services): Children have the right to good
quality health care – the best health care possible – to safe drinking
water, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to
help them stay healthy. Rich countries should help poorer countries achieve
this.’

Perhaps there is a case for suggesting to the Committee who oversee the
Convention that we (as in everybody over 18) need to revise what is meant by
‘nutrition’ ie in terms of breastmilk being physiologically specific.

I have copied these excerpts from pages of: http://www.unicef.org/crc/
Below are the phrases I have a problem with:

From the Convention: ...In 1989, world leaders decided that children needed
a special convention just for them because people under 18 years old often
need special care and protection” that adults do not.
The Convention protects children's rights by setting standards in health care...

What do others think?

Cheers, Julieanne
