I looked on the archives and found several allusions to a connection between these, but does anyone else have more info? F.Nice says it can get into the baby's system post partum but very little, but no info about placental passage to fetus.
I have a mom who had pre-eclampsia, and was on mag sulfate for >24 hours, and never developed a milk supply, only trickles. A lot of problems getting baby to latch the first few days, and then, since no milk supply ensued, she never did latch. This mom had the best of LC help, and was very willing to try most everything (and did!), but wants to know if she has another baby will there be a problem with supply, or was it likely the mag sulfate? In my thinking, I often feel that those women who are on IV fluids for long periods also have lactation failure. It is valuable to take a careful history of the birth process.
