What follows is my initial take on the Prozac article (or at least what I
know about it):
The NIH library did not have the article. I have only an abstract right
now. Based upon what I know and the abstract, here are my thoughts:
The study looks as good as any study that has been done to date on
fluoxetine and norfluoxetine, upon which we in the breastfeeding currently
base our recommendations. I have not yet been convinced that those women
who are on fluoxetine during their pregnancy should not continue during
breastfeeding. I know Tom Hale has some doubts, but those doubts can be
monitored while the breastfeeding mother is on fluoxetine. This study
appears to confirm previous findings, which is certainly good. Once I get
the actual article, if I feel differently, I will let you know.
Frank
