Hi all,

Does anyone know of any research which shows one way or the other a
relationship between breastfeeding and seizure activity?

A friend of mine is working with a mother who has Cerebral Palsy and has
experienced an increase in her seizures during this last 2-3 weeks after
birth.  Her husband believes this increase in seizure activity to be caused
by her breastfeeding, since she didn't experience this with her 1st child
and didn't breastfeed him either.   Arghhh!!!!

He is saying that her increased hormone levels (we can't get him to say
*which* hormones he's talking about) are causing the seizures and that the
breastfeeding is causing this increase in hormone levels.  Very frustrating
for us.  I have a feeling the seizure activity is being used as an excuse to
"quit" (breastfeeding so far has been difficult, with positioning, sleepy
baby, nipple confusion :-( and so on), but I really don't know.  Nothing I
read mentions anything about this.

He has stated that the breastfeeding was "over" and was not interested in
any research or information about the subject, so this is for *our*
information.  It won't change their minds, but perhaps if we ever run across
this again we will know what to say from the beginning.
