Boy am I chatty lately. Below is a copy of what I sent Nancy privately when
she asked about this pump. Just for the record I am also a LLLL, when I
started I was part of the Breastfeeding Aid Sales Program (sell Medela pumps
on consignment), but when the store - where I now work part-time - opened
and began selling Medela I no longer had any business for my group. So I
now have a retail contract with Ameda & Medela (for the extra parts that
moms needs) and I own some of each companies rental pumps (possible with
wonderful grant funds) which means my group can order supplies and have them
paid for with group funds and my husband no longer calls my group work my
expensive hobby.

I bought one as soon as they came into our store and took it to my
co-leader. She is nursing her toddler and pumping for a friends baby so she
could compare them. We both have rental pumps for moms so she would do side
by side comparisions with other brands.

She found the Whisper wear got her as much milk as the Pump in Style &
Lactina (she still gets more with the Classic). But she still gets more
milk with the White River (the soft flanges lets her hand express to get the
letdown and stimulate more complete empting). The Whisper Wear does not
have a high suction, the breast cup does some massaging action so high
vacuum isn't needed. But a few moms feel this makes the pump ineffective
(doesn't feel the same as the Pump in Style, etc.). One group mom (we also
had a few moms come over and test the Whisper Wear and some other pumps)
felt that the Whisper Wear wasn't working at all, she had the WW on one
breast and the White River on the other, although both collection containers
had the same amount of milk, she was expecting to feel a lot of suction.

For the WW to work you have to get in on correctly (needs to have a complete
seal on the breast to create the suction and the breast cup needs to be on
the pump completely). You put in on almost like the asym. latch, from the
bottom up, turn it on for the latch phase and if it isn't "stuck" to your
breast you need to turn it off and try again. The mom was was a J cup only
got it to work once for a short time. Once running you can move around,
bend forward (at one point my co-leader undid her bra, bent over and shook
her breasts and the pump stayed on), you can even pump flat on your back -
just put the collection bags down on you side instead of over your belly.

We have had one returned to the store because the mom said there wasn't
enough suction, so I now tell all the moms that the suction is less but the
pump is still effective. Just e-mail if you have other questions.
