Last year I lectured to a PT/OT pediatric study group. I emphasized what I
felt would be pertinant to the audience. I would suggest, as others have, to
review what they may see as referrals, in addition to going over basic
breastfeeding positioning, duration, common problems, etc. I would be certain
to include the effect that normal infant reflexes have on posture and how
this affects latch - on. I would suggest you spend some time discussing
infants with special challenges to posture or feeding, as they may have
(hopefully) had some pediatric physiotherapy lectures or experience, and this
may be something they can relate to. You may also want to discuss special
needs mothers, and perhaps allow them to problem solve with you a mother with
a particular diagnosis that they may see, and discuss and how they would help
her to breastfeed even with her limitations. Get them to see how they can
help improve breastfeeding success. Good Luck!
