Breastfeeding lobby accused of aggressive tactics

New Zealand

"Breast is best," we are constantly told, but just how hard should we try to
hammer that message home?

The chief sponsor of a Hamilton parenting expo - Wyeth, a pharmaceutical
company that produces infant formula - has suddenly pulled out under
pressure from the pro-breastfeeding lobby.

They say Wyeth's involvement in the show is inappropriate as it does nothing
to promote 'breast is best'.

But the expo organiser say it has been a complete overreaction, and claims
the breastfeeders have mounted an aggressive campaign, emailing local papers
and holding protests.

We speak to the Child Parenting expo organiser, Maureen Cruickshank, and Dr
Alison Barrett, an obstetrician and the clinical director of maternity
services at Waikato Hospital, who opposed Wyeth's sponsorship of the event.

(watch the video at link above, to hear the whole story)
