Debbie,
Thanks for mentioning Helen Hunt and her chat on Letterman. Maybe seeing
that would have countered the disgust my husband and I felt when again on TV
nursing is seen as something only stupid or fanatical women do. In this
version a nursing mother who is young and drug-addicted ( after an injury, being
put on painkillers) puts her baby at risk by leaving the baby in a car
alone while she goes to a club to score drugs, then they find out the baby has
opiates in its system and the mother says she would NEVER give her baby drugs.
The policewoman says something like "but honey you're breastfeeding". Of
course the baby is taken away, is ill, and then later dies supposedly of
pneumonia caused by aspiration of breast milk... There is one moment when the police
officer says the mother was only trying to take care of her baby...
