That may be so. However, we needn't follow every technique used in dairy milking over the centuries and millenia. A few days ago I was looking at an article (didn’t note the source) on the earliest pre-literacy evidence in North Africa of using cattle for their milk, not just as meat. Some of the rock art showed a technique that was known to be used in traditional cultures much later, including in living memory - lifting the cow's tail and either blowing into her vagina or inserting a hand. Yes, really!

That said, yes, there are lessons we can learn from the dairy sources.

Feeding during  milking enhances milking-related oxytocin secretion and milk production in dairy cows whereas food deprivation decreases it.  K. Svennersten et all, Acta Physiol Scand 1995, 153, 309-310.
Interesting food for thought, how might this relate to the lactating woman? who we always tell to get a drink when she sits down to nurse.  Maybe we need to tell her to have a snack!  Pat in SNJ, who doesn't know whether or not to keep this animal study :-(
